Things to Remember

*The on-line gradebook will be  set up soon.  I will send home information about how to set up your account when it is ready.  Just a reminder that grades will be updated by Monday evening.

* Students will now have homework every night (yes, even Friday).  Please make sure their name is on it and that a parent/guardian has checked their work before it is due the next day.  No work is allowed to be turned in the same day it is assigned.  Spelling words and assignments will be given out on Monday and will be due on Friday along with a test!

*I will not be posting daily assignments on the website this year. Students are expected to use their planners and should bring them home daily.  I will post when tests or projects are coming up and any other important information that you may need to know.  If your child is absent, feel free to text me for that day's assignments.

If you have any questions, please call or text me at (217) 371-1405 or email me at mamathrash2@yahoo.com.  Please pray for all of the students, teachers, and their families at Salem that God may richly bless us and keep us safe and healthy.

Basic Fact  Folders (grades 3-6) are being sent home on Mondays.  Students have 4 assignments to complete each week (make flashcards, practice flashcards,a game to play, and 1 practice sheets).  I have given a suggestion of a schedule on the front of the folder.  When each assignment is completed, please sign each day individually.  Students that are missing days signed by a parent will owe 10 minutes per day not signed by a parent.  The parent needs to sign or initial each day, not the student!!!  Recess time will be served on Fridays when the folders are returned to school.

Grade 3 will be given be using the worksheet pages similar to those that they have used in previous grades.  Once we finish the regular 3rd grade book, we will review some of the more difficult concepts and move to the Intermediate 3 math book.

Grade 4 will be using a workbook.  They will always complete #1-15 (unless otherwise instructed).  They are given time in class to start the assignment but should still take it home to be checked by an adult.

Grade 5 has a choice to use the printed boxes or regular notbook paper  If they are using regular notbook paper, then it should be formatted the way we went over in class.  They will always complete #1-10 and other problems relating to that day's lesson  (unless otherwise instructed).  They are given time in class to start the assignment but should still take it home to be checked by an adult.

Grade 6 has a choice to use the printed boxes or regular notebook paper.  If they are using regular notebook paper, then it should be formatted the way we went over in class.  They will always complete #1-10 and other problems relating to that day's lesson  (unless otherwise instructed).  They are given time in class to start the assignment but should stil take it home to be checked by an adult.

Grade 7, Grade 8 and Algebra will be working through their math books.

Grades 3-6 will have a test every 5 lessons.  They will receive a practice test that is very similar to the actual test that they will take.  We will do the practice test at school but students should still review the concepts at home.

Grades 7-8 will have a new curriculum (GoMath). They will now have 1 day of in class practice and 1 day of graded homework. They will have a practice test the day before the regular test.  Tests will occur at the end of each Module and those vary in length.  Students should NOT tear pages out of the workbook that contains their practice pages.

Grade 5-6 will be focusing on the second half on the science book this year.  We will begin with Unit D and work our way through to the end of the book.  Students will be given a packet at the beginning of each lesson and will have 3-5 days to complete the packet.  Each unit, students will have one research project to complete.  Students will be able to use their notes on their tests and will be given a study guide before each test.

Grade 7-8 will be starting the year with the Science book "Inside Earth".   These lessons vary greatly in length.  Students will have 1 or 2 assignments to turn in each week.  Some of these worksheets are very short so each question is worth quite a bit of points.  Students need to take care to make sure they are using their books to answer the questions.  Students will be able to use their notes on their tests during the first semester of the school year but not the second.  Students will be given a study guide before each test.

Grade 5-6 will have PE on Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays.  Students are highly encouraged to change clothes for PE class.  The first two weeks of the month will be a sport and the second two weeks of the month will be fitness.

Grade 7-8 will have PE on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  Students are highly encouraged to change clothes for PE class.  The first two of the month will be a sport and the second two weeks of the month will be fitness.
