First Grade School Newsletter April 23, 2018 – April 27, 2018

In Religion, the First Graders will learn about Saul’s conversion from being a persecutor of Christians to an apostle that spread God’s Word. His name was changed from Saul to Paul. The Apostle Paul’s single purpose in life was to witness to the grace of God in Jesus Christ. He desired to reach his fellow Jews first, but he wanted to obey the Lord’s call to preach the Good News to all people including the Gentiles. Paul invited Timothy to join him as a missionary.

Memory Work: Sound of Music Play (work on in class)

In reading, the students will be focusing on Wonders Unit 6 Week 4. For the comprehension strategy of theme we will read A Spring Birthday page 282 – 291 (Monday HW), Lissy's and Making Paper Shapes page 362 – 397 (Tuesday HW)AR BOOK (Wednesday HW). In grammar we will be working on I and me. Words to know are before, front, heard, push, tomorrow, you, difficult, and nobody. The phonics skill will be three- letter blends. First Grade School Newsletter April 30, 2018 – May 4, 2018

In Religion, the First Graders will learn about Tabitha, also known as Dorcas, who used her gift of sewing to provide for widows and fatherless children. Today also, the Holy Spirit brings people to faith and guides their actions to reflect their faith just as this female in the Bible. We too as Christians need to use our gifts to be a blessing to others. We also learn the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector emphasizing the fact that God is happy when people show a humble and repentant attitude, not thinking too highly of themselves.
Memory Work: Morning Prayer

All through the day, I humbly pray, Be thou my guard and guide; My sins forgive and let me live, Blest Jesus, near Thy side.
In reading the students will be focusing on Wonders Unit 6 Week 5. For the comprehension strategy of author's purpose we will read
Share the Harvest and Give Thanks page 302 – 311 (Monday HW), Happy Birthday, U.S.A.! and A Young Nation Grows page 398 – 390 (Tuesday HW), AR BOOK (Wednesday HW), and Differentiated Text: It's Labor Day! and journal (Thursday HW). In grammar we will be working on adverbs that tell how. Words to know favorite, few, gone, surprise, wonder, young, nation, and unite. The phonics skill will be r-controlled vowels: air, are, and ear.

In reading the students will be focusing on stepping up to second grade. For the comprehension strategy of author's purpose we will read multiple differentiated text. In grammar we will be reviewing the basic skills (noun, verb, adj.). The phonics skill will be {er}.
